Live Streaming

Regular ClickMeeting accounts are perfect for meetings and webinars, whether they are academic or company presentations, online lessons, or training sessions. Streaming is an additional feature available on-demand for customers who prepare big events and want to stream them online in the best quality. It is sold exclusively by our Sales team, that can be reached here. This advanced feature allows organizers to broadcast the live event using multiple cameras and camera angles.

One of the most important features in Live streaming is the ability to choose the quality in which the recipient receives the image. There are three image qualities available: HIGH, MID, LOW. The quality of transmission is selected by the recipient depending on the parameters of the bandwidth they have. The sender provides the image in the highest format which, on the side of the platform, is changed dynamically depending on the individual hardware and bandwidth resources of each user. By choosing the quality manually, the user takes control of transmission quality settings. This means that transmission quality is no longer adjusted automatically. Note that transmission quality on iOS devices is automatically set to 720p.

What are the differences between regular ClickMeeting audio-video settings and those for live streaming?

Delay

None. Minimal delays due to delays in data transfer. In case of major problems, delays in the picture may be compensated by dropping some fragments of the video.

10 to 20 seconds. Caused by the need to buffer the image (collecting data on the server side as well as on the attendee side) to ensure the highest possible smoothness. Difficulties with the connection stop the transmission, rather than skipping some fragments of it.

 

The recommended stream parameters are as follows: 1080p resolution, a bitrate of 3-5 Mbps, keyframe 1s.
Please note that a higher bitrate will not improve the quality of live streaming (and might even result in bandwidth issues).

To use the live streaming feature, you must have a streaming encoder installed, such as OBS. It’s free and works well for most of the cameras which our customers use. Alternatively, you can use Wirecast that offers some additional features.

You may use other encoders but be aware that ClickMeeting has only tested OBS and Wirecast encoders and cannot advise you on other solutions.

How do I set up my streaming account with OBS?

1. Enter your event room and click the Live streaming services icon in the left hand side menu.

2. Initiate the Live Streaming process and wait to connect.

Then copy the Stream name/key and Server URL to OBS.

3. Open OBS and paste the received parameters. Remember they should be the same both in the event room and in the software. When you finish the configuration in the software, click the OK button. Be sure to start the stream in OBS.

4. Go back to the event room and wait for the connection to our server to complete.

Click the Start streaming button. You will start streaming your event live.

Tips & Tricks

1. Please note that the Live streaming feature does not replace the standard AV pod. Therefore, it is not possible to display the Live streaming image and other event room functions such as presentation, whiteboard, or screen sharing.

2. If you do not want to display the AV pod during your event with live streaming, we recommend that you hide it or have it disabled by reaching out to us before the event.

3. Choose Presentation under Recorder layouts if you need to record the event through ClickMeeting without unnecessary components (e.g. AV pod, top bar).

4. Please note that the Server URL and Stream name/key parameters might change. Be sure to verify them before you start a new event. If you enable live streaming multiple times during a single session hosted in a given event room, these parameters are unlikely to change. In case they do, a notification will be displayed the moment live streaming is enabled.

5. The event room and external software can be set up on separate devices. Thanks to this, you will avoid the impression of an unstable image on your side.

6. To synchronize the guide camera with the RTMP stream, you can use a virtual camera for the guide (e.g., via OBS) and set the same delay.

7. In case of connection or streaming issues try reducing the video stream bitrate to 2.5 – 3 Mbps.

8. CBR is best for live streaming encoding. We recommend you choose this type under Encoder settings.

9. If the stream disconnects, it is worth using the option to re-generate the key under the Recreate key button.
